Jay-Z “Roc Boys” Music Video

Posted in American Gangsters, Jay-Z with tags , on November 6, 2007 by syncity

I told ya’ll!! It’s a dope video cuz it fits perfectly with the concept of the song. Chris Robinson is one talented director. The colors are even and great for the song with it’s jazzy dim feeling for the horns of the song. The cameos are ridiculous like we’re in 1996 again in New York. Mostly down south rappers get together like that. Then again, everybody in the video is somehow Def Jam affiliated or Roc-A-Fella affiliated or American Gangster affiliated. I said most. What is Denis Da Menace, former FUSE TV host, doing in the video? LOL 2 Thumbs up from me!

**Update: The voice saying “we in the house” at the end is Cassie….LOL *in a zone* Sorry *images of the 106 performance fades away* I had to. *shrugs* They credit her in the album for that specific song. I guess she just so happened to be around Puff! *smiles* Well at least she is pretty!

Common and RZA Speaks to MTV: Being in American Gangster, an American Dream.

Posted in American Gangsters, Common with tags , on November 5, 2007 by syncity

RZA

Frank Lucas, the subject of the new film “American Gangster,” very well might have been the living embodiment of the American dream.

“It’s called ‘American Gangster,’ understand?” Brooklyn rapper RZA declared. “We’ve all got this American dream. Black, white, Asian … it doesn’t matter. I think [Lucas] really fits that American dream, even though it’s the negative side. He brought his whole family up from the South. Thanksgiving, everybody got a turkey. All that kind of stuff is the American dream.”

If the nobility and spirit of the American dream is big enough to include an illicit success story like Frank Lucas’, then it certainly should also include good stories like those belonging to RZA and his “Gangster” co-star Common, both acclaimed rappers striving to pen new careers as actors. And both have come a long way from their humble beginnings.

Jay-Z to Sign Jadakiss on Roc-A-Fella?

Posted in American Gangsters, Jadakiss, Jay-Z with tags , , on October 29, 2007 by syncity

Jay-Z XXL Mag

If Jay-Z gets his wish, Jadakiss will be a part of the Roc very soon. Hov has been in negotiations with Ruff Ryders to get the black Babe Ruth on his label through Def Jam. It’s almost a done deal.

“Well, I’ve been actually trying to get Jadakiss to come to Roc-A-Fella/ Ruff Ryders for a minute,” he said. “It’s not done. It’s in the final stages, though. I spoke to [co-CEO] Dee [Dean] and all of them about doing something really special with a Roc-A-Fella/ Ruff Ryders collaboration.”

Jay drops his American Gangster LP on November 6 and the next video from the album will be “Roc Boys.” A movie for his album — not to be confused with the November 2 Denzel Washington movie that inspired the album — is also coming down the line.

“I’mma shoot a video but try to shoot it [so that] I can add scenes from it into the movie,” Hov told us a couple of days before “Roc Boys” went into production. “It’s gonna take a minute to get this movie together; writing it and getting the right people to do it.” …

And I told You SOOoOOOOoo (about the “Roc Boys” Shoot)! This was an Boombox NYC Exclusive !!!

Jay-Z and Denzel Washington

SO for all you Shawn Carter stans out there, the 2nd single is definately and officially “Roc Boys”. The leak wasn’t an accident at all because apparantly they did shoot the video to the song yesterday, directed by Chris Robinson. And if you’ve paid attention to my earlier blogs, that song was produced by Sean C and LV….Err…I mean Diddy! (Harr Harr) Of course Diddy had to be in the video. He also brought Cassie with him on the set. *cough!* Oh and I was told Diddy, Nas, and Jigga have a scene together. Now that is A-Picture! Zee rap veterans reunion u might say! Also, what might seem to be, the whole Def Jam roster was in the video… from their big money star like Mariah Carey to mixtape rappers like Uncle Murder and Tru Life (whom was walking around clowning yelling “Dipset Dipset”!). Memphis Bleek, Just Blaze, Beanie Siegel, even Freeway and Young Gunz (!!) was there to rep the Dynasty which only make sense because of the theme of the song (Roc Boys). Def Jam Chairman, L.A. Reid and his son was in the house….Steve Bartels, an Exec at Island Records was in the house…NBA Player, Jamal Crawford, was in the house….America’s Top Model, Brea, was in the house…Stylist to the star (whom had a double shift with Ciara’s 5 City B-day extravaganza and this shoot), June Ambrose, was in the house…and finally, R&B singers Razah and The Dream was there too. That’s about everybody I think? Was B there? I’m not sure…I’m going to have to call my boy on that one!

**EDIT: The video shoot was held at 40/40 where its spot recently was thrown a case against them by pregnant woman.

According to Billboard.com, Brooklyn-based mixtape DJ J.Period has produced a track that will appear in upcoming TV ads for the new Ridley Scott-directed biopic American Gangster. The film, which hits theatres on November 2, has been using Jay-Z’s “Ain’t No Love” in the theatrical trailer, but they wanted a different sound for the TV spot.
